Site Description

Located at 460m ASL, just below the upper Tawe valley road, on an east-facing slope at the confluence of minor streams, is a sharply-profiled oval mound. Turf-covered, it measures 6m (NE-SW) by 5m and 0.5m high on the uphill side, 1m downhill. Probing suggests a mound of earth and stones; coarse, angular sandstone ‘gravel’ was noted on the downhill, north-east side. This, together with its streamside location, points to a prehistoric burnt mound.
This site lies close to a parish boundary marker shown on first edition OS 25-inch mapping as ‘Heap of Stones’.
